Arrival & Dismissal Proedures

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Parents may drop off students beginning at 7:50 AM each morning. Parents must pick up their students by
3:15 PM each afternoon. Phones will be answered from 7:50 AM until 2:45 PM and 3:20 PM - 3:30 PM on Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. On Wednesdays phones will be answered from 7:50 AM –12:45 PM and 1:20 PM - 3:30
PM. LPA is a commuter school and by registering your child at LPA you have agreed to provide safe transportation
to and from school at the designated times daily.

Tardies
A student is marked tardy if they are not in their chair ready to start the day at the beginning bell. If you
drop your student off and they are not able to make it to their classroom before the beginning bell the parent must
sign them in at the front desk, otherwise the student will be marked absent for the day. After six (6) tardy arrivals in
one quarter, the front office will send home a notice reiterating school policy. After eight (8) tardy arrivals in one
quarter, parents will be notified via phone, email or mail, and may be asked to meet with the Director. If it is
established that instructional time has been consistently missed, and the student is performing poorly because of the
tardies, the student may be placed on Tardy Probation. If the student continues to be tardy, thereby violating their
Tardy Probation, they may be asked to appear before the Governing Board.

Student Drop-Off
Students may be dropped off after 7:50 AM each morning. Doors will be locked and no supervision
provided until 7:50 AM. Students will be supervised from 7:50 AM until 8:00 AM, at which time students will be
escorted to classrooms. Parents may drive through the carpool lane on the west side of the school and pull up to the
sidewalk at the west doors or at the front doors. Students need to exit the right side of the car to ensure their safety.
Due to safety concerns, parents of elementary may not drop off students at the east or south doors of the
school. Parents not wanting to use the designed carline system should park on Jordan River Parkway, the road west
of the school, and escort their child into the building, making sure to use the center sidewalk to avoid any disruption
to the carline and provide supervision for their child.
All parents will follow the directions of the volunteers running morning carline. If students arrive after
school begins, parents must escort their child into the building and check them in at the front desk.

Checking-in and Checking-out
Any student who arrives on campus after the beginning of school or who leaves school at any time after
having been on campus must sign in or out at the main office or the student will be considered truant.
If a student needs to leave the school during school hours the parent/guardian (or guardian approved adult)
must check the student out. Parental consent in person is required to sign out early. Calling ahead to have your
student ready will not be permitted.

Students who sign out are still subject to the attendance policy for excused and unexcused absences.
Parents/guardians are advised not to check students out of school for anything other than emergencies, as this can
significantly affect a student’s academics.

If parents are going on vacation, be sure and add the caregiver to the student's emergency contact list so they can pick them up from the school, if necessary, while you are gone. You should also leave a “permission to treat” with
the caregiver in case there is need for medical attention for the student and the parents are not available.

Student After-School Pick-Up
Students must be picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal time. Every family is assigned a number. This
family carpool number will not change from year to year.

Please make sure your number is BIG and BOLD. Please have your family number as well as all of the family
numbers in your carpool where they can be seen by the staff member.

When you arrive at school for pick-up, you will line up in the carpool lane. At 2:50 PM, a staff member
comes outside with a walkie-talkie. She/he will begin taking numbers starting at the first car in line and continuing
through the line to all of the cars that are waiting. Students wait quietly in their classrooms until 3:00 PM when the
first numbers are called.

When students hear their number, they leave their classroom quietly and walk out to the carpool curb. If
some of your students come out but others do not (within 3 minutes of being at the curb), find a staff member with a
walkie-talkie and they will call your number again. After you have picked up your student, exit the parking lot while
watching carefully for pedestrians.

Parents wanting to pick up their students inside the school must park on the east side of Jordan River
Parkway, the road WEST of the school building. Parents may not park on Center Street during car pool as this blocks
traffic flow limiting the speed of the carpool system. Parents should walk on the center sidewalk and enter the school
through the gym door, after the final dismissal bell. Upon entering the school, they will write their carpool number on
a list at the front desk and wait for their child in the lobby area. Parents shall not enter the hallways or classrooms
once carpool has begun.

Forgotten Carpool Numbers
If you do not know your number you will need to park on Jordan River Parkway, which is on the WEST side
of the building, and walk in to the office. After the office personnel verify the person is authorized to pick up the
student they will call the student down to the lobby.

Student Check-Out During Carpool
The school office will be open for student check-outs from 8:15 AM - 2:45 PM on Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday, Friday and 8:15 AM -12:45 PM on Wednesday. There will be no student check-outs between 2:45-3:00 PM
on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 12:45-1:00 PM on Wednesdays. Please arrange to be here before 2:45
(12:45 PM on Wednesday) if you need to check-out your students at the end of the day.

Students Left After Carpool
Students remaining on campus after carpool is completed will be escorted into a classroom. Parents will be
required to enter the building and pick up their student(s) in the classroom posted in the front lobby. The teacher will
give the parent a friendly reminder of the pick-up times and explain the next time they may be charged $15 for the late
pick-up. After the third late pick-up they will be contacted by administration for a conference and/or LPA may
report continued violations to Legacy Preparatory School Board and/or the proper authorities, such as Division of
Child and Family Services or North Salt Lake Police Department.

Non-Custodial Parent/Guardian

LPA abides by the provisions of the Family Education Right to Privacy Act with respect to the rights of non-custodial parents. In the absence of a court order to the contrary, the school will provide the non-custodial parent access to the academic records and to other school-related information regarding the student. If there is a court order specifying that there is to be no information given, it is the responsibility of the custodial parent to provide the school with an official copy of the court order.

Likewise, non-custodial parents will have access to students during school hours in the same way that custodial parents do (including picking up the student from school) unless documentation to the contrary is presented to the school.
