South Campus Grades K - 4

H. The Arts » Drawing

Our art program has been recognized as one of (if not the) the best program in the state: by the Sorenson Foundation, The University of Utah, Utah Opera and the Arts and Weber State.
Our mission statement includes: TO ENHANCE LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS.
We specialize in the integration of core subjects and our art. Lesson plans are designed to correspond to literature, science and history at every grade level. When fourth graders study the human heart we draw it and when they study Africa we paint portraits from Nabele and animals from Zimbabwa.
Our goal for every child is to provide a well-rounded art experience using many approaches and materials that have grown out of our involvement in art education and child development. Not only do our students learn representational drawing skills, they also learn other key skills, which transfer to the following areas of learning:
  • Visual perception skills which help with reading and mathematics
  • Eye-to-hand coordination
  • Focus and concentration
  • Organizing and planning
  • Completing what is started
  • Linking art and science with the ability to explore new concepts and associations, to understand abstract ideas, to build models and recognize patterns
Artists build a portfolio starting in Kindergarten and our academic year culminates with an art show. We often display our students' works within the community and private businesses.
